Abstract
This article deals with the relevance of linguistic research for German instruction in primary and secondary schools. Although basic properties of the structure of German are part of language instruction in all types of school, further research is necessary to demonstrate the usefulness of linguistics in improving the ability of school children to express themselves and in promoting their competence in argumentation. The article proposes methods for making greater use of the results of research in German language instruction to native speakers, in particular to more advanced pupils.
