Abstract
The contribution offers the edition, translation and discussion of a neglected document that mirrors the close interaction between the Coptic and Jewish communities in the social and professional spheres of Ayyūbid Cairo. It was found at the start of two manuscripts of Saadiah’s (882–942 CE) Tafsīr, written by a Coptic scholar more than three hundred years after this text was written. The document describes how the Copt invited a distinguished member of the Jewish community of Old Cairo, someone with whom he had obviously established a personal relationship over a series of meetings, to help him copy a manuscript as accurately as possible and establish the correct transmitted text.
