Abstract
Since the numbers of refugees and persons seeking asylum started to continously increase during the last 1aEuro1.5 years, many members of the German healthcare system were confronted with new challenges with respect to the needs of these people for medical care. A special situation regarding medical care as well as its organization occurred when thousands of refugees arrived in Munich within a short period of time in September 2015. Dealing with these often traumatized and frightened people was a particular challenge for physicians and nursing personnel. In this article the background, experiences and difficulties for the medical personnel during the initial care of these people arriving in Munich at that time, especially the children are described. In addition, the problems which affected pediatricians' further medical care of the underaged refugees are presented.
