Abstract
Stridor in children offers great challenges to pediatricians and often causes significant concerns for parents. Stridor is a high-pitched breath sound resulting from turbulent air flow resulting from an upper airway obstruction. Inspiratory stridor suggests airway extrathoracic obstruction, while an expiratory stridor is indicative of obstruction in the intrathoracic airway. Critical upper airway obstruction shows a biphasic stridor. Etiology can be congenital or acquired and the underlying causes are variable. In most cases stridor is benign and temporary, but there are also several severe diseases with progressive course that need immediate diagnostic approach and therapy.
