WINDOWS INSTALLER

Running "VC-Install.exe" will install the files listed below
in the program folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\VC" (This may vary
according to the version and language of Windows.)

IMPORTANT: If you see a window with the message "Windows protected
your PC. Windows SmartScreen ..." click "More info" and on the next
screen "Run anyway".

The files written to the program folder are:

-the program "VC.exe" version 7
-the help file "VC Help.chm"
-the utility file "VCpipe.bat"
-the utility file "VCconfig.bat"
-the helper file "elevate.cmd"
-the helper file "elevate.vbs"
-the uninstaller "uninstall.exe"

Further, links to the start menu are created and the folder
"VC" is created in thefolder C:\ProgramData. It contains the data
file "OkunGer.csv" that serves for an example run. The folder
can be moved any time to a preferred location or deleted, if
no longer in use.

PORTABLE VERSION

As an alternative to installation you can simply extract the
archive "VC Portable.zip" somewhere and run "VC.exe" from
within this folder, again overruling a security warning as
above. This may be useful if privileges for installation or
security concerns are an issue. You may have to go to
"VC Help.chm" first, right-click and unblock it. After this,
VC should run smoothly. To direct output to a program of your
choice, edit "VCPipe.bat" with Notepad by following the
instructions given there.

LINUX/WINE

VC runs almost perfectly under Linux with Wine. Install it
with "VC-Install.exe". The "Help" button does not open
the help file correctly, though. (I do not know how to
unblock the "VC Help.chm" in Linux/Wine.) To open the help
file in Linux, install xCHM or another CHM-reader in Linux.
Further, piping works for Windows Programs installed with
Wine. To configure piping under Linux, edit "VCPipe.bat"
by following the instructions given there.

GRETL VERSION

For Apple users, the the function package TVC for the software
Gretl (http://gretl.sourceforge.net/) implements the VC
method. It runs also on Windows and Linux.
