Abstract
Preclinically epileptic seizures are among the most common emergencies in pediatrics. Most seizures end spontaneously and there is no need for acute pharmaceutical intervention. The situation is different if seizures persist for several minutes. In order to minimize the now increasing risk for the occurrence of a status epilepticus, an acute anticonvulsive treatment should be initiated to prevent this happening or to end a status epilepticus that has already begun. The principles of this treatment and the possible routes of administration of medication in children are presented in this article.
