Abstract
Background The St. Gallen (SG) International Consensus Conference on the treatment of patients with primary breast cancer (SG-BCC) has been held regularly for more than 30 years. As the international panel of the St. Gallen conference consists of experts from different countries and different disciplines, the consensus voting that results from these meetings represents an international cross-section of opinions. Rationale From the German perspective it is considered useful to discuss the results of the consensus voting with respect to the clinical routine in Germany. Basis The discussion is based on the German treatment guidelines of the Working Group of Gynecologic Oncology of the German Cancer Society (AGO 2021) which are updated annually and the German S3 guideline. Results The topic of this year's 17th St. Gallen Consensus Conference was Customizing local and systemic therapies for women with early breast cancer. The rationale behind this is that each treatment decision must also consider the cancer-specific situation of the individual patient. In this article, the most important results of the SG-BCC in systemic treatment and radiotherapy are discussed.
