Abstract

The Planetary Health Diet was developed as a global concept for a health-promoting diet while respecting planetary boundaries. The publication received a lot of attention, at the same time the methods of derivation, the statements of the Planetary Health Diet and its practical implementation are to be evaluated in the scientific discourse. To this end, this DGE statement compares the proposed food quantities of the Planetary Health Diet to the food-based dietary recommendations of the DGE and compares them with consumption data from Germany. The results show that both the Planetary Health Diet and the DGE recommendations show broad agreement as plant-based diets. Differences exist especially for milk and dairy products. For the practical implementation of the Planetary Health Diet, regional conditions must be taken into account, as is the case with the DGE recommendations. The nutritional reality in Germany is in clear contrast to both recommendations.
