Abstract

The aim of this study was to present different indications and production processes of customized CAD/CAM healing abutments and impression posts made of PEEK. Additionally, a case report for each indication is given. Customized healing abutments and the corresponding customized impression posts can be fabricated pre-surgically by 3D-implant planning with help of CBCT (Dicom data) and digital impressions (STL data), or after implant placement using intra-surgical digital implant registration. Four different indications are defined. The soft tissue and the emergence profile around dental implants can be preserved by means of customized healing abutments during immediate implant placement, or during second-stage surgery without active pressure to the tissue. Thus, the functional and the esthetic results for the patient can be improved. Due to the preservation and early soft tissue contouring during second-stage surgery, complex stepwise soft-tissue conditioning with active pressure by the suprareconstruction can be avoided.
