Relationship Between Quality And Structure Of The Horn Of The Equine Hoof As A Basis For The Understanding Of Insufficient Keratinization.
In: Monatshefte für Veterinärmedizin, Vol. 48, No. 11-12: pp. 623-630
Abstract
The differences in horn quality in the different segments of the hoof, which are even palpable, are examined using a method for materialtesting, the ball impact method (DIN 53456). The results are correlatedwith the morphological findings. To compare the coronet and the padsegment of the horse hoof, architecture, inter- and intracellularfactors influencing the horn quality are studied and evaluated underpolarized light and with histometrical, histochemical andimmunohistochemical methods. The influence of these factors, theircharacteritics in each segment, and their combination on horn quality, are discussed.
