Abstract
Using the technique of linar marking on the embryonic thyroid ofchicken, it was proven that the thyroid anlage after its evaginationfrom the primitive pharynx, does not undergo any caudal migration. Itstopogenesis is influenced by two main mechanisms. First, the relativecraniocaudal displacement follows from the cranially oriented growth ofthe neck and second, the enlarging oesophagus presses the tracheaventrally against the thyroid anlage promoting its division andseparation of both lobes.
