Abstract

The fourth update of the guidelines to determine the final, irreversible failure of the overall function of the cerebrum, the cerebellum and the brain stem confirms the clinical importance of EEG. The reliability and validity of EEG in this indication is well established and no changes in the current version are required. This review addresses the role of EEG in the guidelines and discusses some practical issues.
