Abstract

This investigation was initiated due to the claim of an accused person that the consumption of tic tac or Fisherman's Friend pastilles led to a falsely elevated breath alcohol level exceeding 0.25 mg/l. The investigation included 18 subjects in total (13 women and 5 men). All subjects were used to average alcohol consumption. The experiments were conducted when the test persons were in both a sober and an inebriated state. In both experimental versions a breath alcohol sample was taken during and after consumption of the pastilles. The possible slight elevation of the results obtained by the breath alcohol measurement in the preliminary test was the point under discussion but these results could not be confirmed.
