Abstract

The EEG is a very sensitive diagnostic tool, whose evaluation requires an accurate implementation, as well as knowledge about artefacts and norm variants. In hands of an experienced examiner, the EEG serves as a valuable source of information in patients with paroxysmal events, impaired vigilance or for the diagnosis of brain death. The basic principles of EEG set-up, implementation and evaluation are explained in the following.
