Abstract

In the case presented the brain injuries inflicted by shaking the baby led to severe, devastating neurological sequelae. As shaken baby syndrome still has ahigh incidence in Germany the basic education of parents, doctors and midwives remains an urgent task. The term shaken baby syndrome has to be discussed because the word shaking is often used in atrivialized way and misunderstood as being biologically harmless.
