Abstract

A new species of Umanella Gauld 1991, U. tricoloripes Herrera-Florez, sp. n., is described from two males collected in Colombia. Umanella tricoloripes sp. nov. differs substantially from the other species of the genus in color pattern. The genus Umanella Gauld 1991 has two described species, U. caerulea Gauld 1991 from Costa Rica and Colombia and U. giacometti Broad & Saaksjarvi 2010 from Ecuador (Broad et al. 2010). Both of these species are metallic blue, and this is one of the diagnostic characters of the genus. Other features of Umanella are epinecmial carina absent, metasoma very long, with sternite I reaching further the level of the spiracles, and flagellum with a white band (Gauld 1991, Gauld et al. 1998). A third species of Umanella is described here based on two male specimens from Colombia. This new species has the main characters of the genus, except that the color is not metallic blue as in the other two species but yellow and black.
