Abstract

With implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses patients can see objects in different distances. In nowadays the most often used multifocal lenses are either trifocal or EDOF (extended depth of focus) lenses. With trifocal lenses patients can see objects in far, intermediate and near distance sharp. The resutls of EDOF lenses are usually weaker in the near distance but they tend to cause less bothering optical phenomena like halos. In this article the optical principle behind multifocal lenses is presented, things which need to be considered during examination shown, and current studies summarized.
