Abstract

Decades of clinical experience enable assessment of the diagnostic yield of EEG and its limitations. EEG is a useful tool in the diagnostic evaluations of epilepsy, encephalopathy and parasomnias. Differentiation between physiological variants and abnormal EEG patterns depends on age, and the borders between the 2 are sometimes blurred. A clear and systematic approach to EEG reading is all the more important to avoid over-reading and misinterpretation. This review addresses the current use of EEG.
