Abstract

The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) has created asupportive tool for young scientific investigators in medicine (junior seminar) active in fields with suboptimal success in acquiring public funding. During this seminar, training and support is provided to participating doctors and scientists to generate applications for public funding, specifically if their lack of maturity and know-how may otherwise limit their chances. German cardiac surgery has now performed its first junior seminar and thereby set asignal for the importance of research in the training of young surgeons.
