Abstract
Out-of-school learning settings are widely spread throughout Germany. STEM student labs are one particular type of out-of-school learning settings, which constitute a beneficial addition to STEM school lessons as they are not part of the school curriculum. Through these student labs, students can engage in highly relevant and complex scientific content areas in an authentic environment. In this article, the student lab program nawi:klick!, taking place at the Forschungswerkstatt in Kiel, Germany, will be presented. This program focuses on the presentation of nanotechnological contents and nanosciences in daily life. Based on adjacent questionnaires it could be shown that the learning setting indeed offers perceived knowledge gains as well as a development of students' experimental competences and that the intended relevance for students' daily lives is recognized.
