Abstract

Small covalent organic perchlorates are a less investigated class of compounds, due to the risk of serious explosions. Apart from the simplest alkyl ester, methyl perchlorate, only the trifluoro-substituted ester is known to date. With the synthesis and isolation of fluoromethyl perchlorate (FMP) another member of this class of compounds has been studied, and properties spectroscopically and theoretically investigated. In addition, the energetic properties of FMP were studied and are discussed.
