Abstract
Current ICD-10 alcohol and substance use criteria for dependence and harmful use are in clinical and practical use since 1994. The aim of this review is, to present results on psychometric properties like (interrater and test-retest) reliability of diagnosis and single criteria and their convergence with DSM-IV diagnoses. Further, rationale for development of ICD-11 and DSM-5 are reviewed and convergence across these diagnostic systems (DSM-IV/5 with ICD-10/11) are reported. The advantages and shortcoming of ICD and DSM approaches and their convergence results are discussed.
