Abstract

We provide information on an isolated locality of Salamandra atra on Mt. Orjen in southern Montenegro that fills in a large gap in the species distribution on the Balkan Peninsula. Eco-geomorphic characteristics of a newly found site of the Alpine Salamander indicate that it is a refugium of glacial relics.
