Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of complex salts [M(eta(5)-C5Me5)Cl(tppz)]PF6 (M=Rh, 1;M=Ir, 2;tppz=2.3.5.6-tetra(2'-pyridyl)pyrazine) are described. Compounds 1 and 2 were obtained by bridge-splitting reactions of [{M(eta(5)-C5Me5)(mu-Cl)Cl}(2)] (M=Rh, Ir) with tppz in MeOH at room temperature and spectroscopically characterized. The molecular structures of 1 and 2 in the crystal were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Unexpectedly both compounds exhibit seven-membered chelate rings within the tppz backbone in contrast to the postulated five-membered chelates for these species in literature.
