Final degree theses on Open Access LMU

How to publish your bachelor, master's, Magister, diploma or other final degree thesis on "Open Access LMU".

The University Library of the LMU now offers you the opportunity of depositing your final degree thesis in the "Open Access LMU" repository. This will ensure your work is available online, is archived on a long-term basis and can be found by search engines.

  1. In order to be published online your work must fulfil the criteria laid down by your faculty. To find out about these criteria, please contact the tutor who supervised your final thesis.
  2. In the event that your work includes external material (e.g. graphics, images etc.) you must have already asked the rights holder for permission to use this material. If your work contains data relating to individuals you must ensure that such data are rendered anonymous in accordance with data protection criteria.
  3. You must agree to the conditions set out in "Granting usage rights for the publication of a final degree thesis on Open Access LMU".

If you fulfil all these conditions please proceed as follows:

  1. Download the form here.
  2. Fill in the form and sign the Granting usage rights agreement.
  3. Ask your supervising tutor to sign the form, then have it stamped with the official stamp of your Institute or Department.
  4. Send us the signed form, either by first scanning it and sending it by e-mail to or by sending it in print form to the following address:

    Universitätsbibliothek der LMU
    Referat Elektronisches Publizieren
    Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1
    80359 München

Your work cannot be published on "Open Access LMU" unless we have received the completed Granting usage rights agreement.

  5. Please remove all personal data (such as curriculum vitae, date of birth or address) from the PDF file you want to upload.
  6. Click on the link "Create account" in the top right-hand corner of this web page and fill in the registration form. Within a few minutes an automatic registration mail will be sent to you. Open the activation link in the e-mail to complete the registration process.
  7. Now log in to "Open Access LMU" by clicking on the "Login" link on this web page.
  8. Then click on the button "New item".
    • Section Item type: Choose the item type "LMU München: thesis“.
    • Section File(s): Now choose the PDF version of your thesis and upload it. Formats other than PDF are not supported. Please ensure that your file name does not contain spaces, umlauts or diacritical signs.
    • Section Metadata: Please enter the bibliographical data for your thesis. Fields marked with * are required and must be completed; click on ? for more information.
    • Section Abstract: Abstract, Keywords and References are optional fields.
    • Section Subjects: Please do not select a faculty; this will be allocated by the University Library. However, you are required to assign your work to the correct subject area. It is possible to specify two or more subject areas.
    • Section Deposit: Please read through "Granting usage rights" carefully. By clicking on the button "Deposit" you agree to the terms of the declaration and grant the University Library the required usage rights.

The University Library will now check if the data you have entered conform to formal criteria. About 3 days after we have received your signed "Granting usage rights" form - either by e-mail or by post - the University Library will publish your final thesis. A title page for your final thesis will be generated automatically so there is no need for you to create your own.
We would ask you to kindly refrain from enquiring when your work will be published.
