Abstract
The recent vogue of village stories comes rather unexpected in a time of globalization'. Starting out from Marcus Twellmann's seminal study on the history of this genre, the present article discusses some possible reasons for this development. The second part gives an outline of the relation between the village story and the tradition of georgic poetry.
