Abstract
The terms 'authenticity' and 'autofiction' operate with an attribution of qualities to a person or a text. This can be analyzed with regard to reception aesthetics, but not as a quality of the observed. Christian Kracht's novels and interviews together with their public reception illustrate this. The example of his latest novel Eurotrash can be used to show how the text presents authorship as a performative construct and highlights the impossibility of referentializing assertions.
