Abstract
Unlike in church theories of socio-economic transformation, the idea of innovation has a central position in the concept of the bioeconomy. Here, the focus is on the question of how the transformation of a carbon-based economy in favor of a bio-based economy is technically possible. From the perspective of ethics of technology, the question of the social conditions of innovative action is of particular interest here. Using the example of the new methods of genome editing for agriculture, it can be shown that innovation and precaution are not opposites, but two sides of the same coin, the currency of which is provision for the future.
