Abstract
The legal and literary history of casuistic law in Covenant Code and Deuteronomy can be described in the three phases of emergence of the single casuistic sentences, their redaction in a context of wisdom and their priestly theologization. For the redaction of casuistic legal sentences, techniques used in cuneiform law were amalgamated with those used in Proverbs. Then priests theologized the collections of casuistic law by installing YHWH as their legal source in order to strengthen the cohesion of the society.
