Abstract
We describe an experimental and operating set-up which has a small wavelength spread of ΔΛ Λ = 3 × 10-3. For this instrument an optimum scanning ratio g = Δ (2θ):Δω of 1, independent of the sample scattering angle, is found. The line profiles calculated are of a trapezoidal shape for samples with zero mosaic spread ηs and exhibit error-function-like wings for ηs ≠ 0. The resolution volume has been determined experimentally, and is in good agreement with the calculations. Some applications for elastic and inelastic work are discussed.
