Dissolution kinetics of the barium sulfate (001) surface by hydrothermal atomic force microscopy.

Dissolution of the BaSO4(001) surface was studied for the first time by hydrothermal atomic force microscopy. Step velocities and pit nucleation rates as a function of temperature along with observations of surface morphology led to the conclusion that the dissolution process is most accurately described by a two-dimensional birth-and-spread model.
