Higgins, S.R.; Jordan, Guntram; Eggleston, C. M.; Knauss, K.G. (1998): Dissolution kinetics of the barium sulfate (001) surface by hydrothermal atomic force microscopy. In: Langmuir, Vol. 14, No. 18: pp. 4967-4971

Dissolution of the BaSO4(001) surface was studied for the first time by hydrothermal atomic force microscopy. Step velocities and pit nucleation rates as a function of temperature along with observations of surface morphology led to the conclusion that the dissolution process is most accurately described by a two-dimensional birth-and-spread model.
