Abstract
In the wake of digitization, libraries are losing their primary function of being repositories for books. They are already developing more and more into social spaces in which human interaction takes the place of solitary reading. Digitization aims to strengthen interactivity in dealing with all artifacts, including books. It invites commentary, editing, and change. It is assumed here that in the future the library will increasingly function as a space in which these processes will take place. This leads to a radical new conception that is likely to affect all educational institutions.
