Abstract
The dating of the Masoretic Sondergut in the Book of Jeremiah varies between the late 6th and the middle of the 2nd century B.C. Evaluation of existing hypotheses shows that they are mostly based on unsustainable evidence. This is also true of the recent attempt to date the Book of Jeremiah (together with its Masoretic Sondergut) on a linguistic-historical basis. Part II offers alternative dating criteria, according to which the corpus originated predominantly in the 3rd century, with the possible exception of the promise in 33:14-26, which may be dated as late as after the middle of the 2nd century.
