Abstract
Analogous to other phases of life, the employment phase can be described as increasingly de-structured and blurred at its edges. This can be seen, for example, in gradual and partly reversible entry and exit scenarios. The contribution addresses the question of how transitions in the employment phase are integrated into social networks, educational structural arrangements, and diffuse time schemata. Overall, the article draws on theoretical concepts and empirical studies that differentiate between educational and social structure, gender, and age, and reflects on various transitions into, within, and out of the employment system based on empirical findings. Following these findings, concrete perspectives for further studies on transitions in the employment phase can be formulated by linking the structural features of these transitions.
