Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications offer opportunities for local news organizations to better cope with the economic challenges they face. As the provision and consumption of high-quality local journalistic content is socially desirable, scholars and industry experts are arguing for a responsible use of AI in journalism. AI applications in journalism should not only increase the efficiency of local news organizations but also adhere to specific quality standards. Accordingly, there is a need for user-centric approaches involving journalists in co-creating AI applications. However, there are no established approaches for developing responsible AI in journalism. Therefore, based on two Design Thinking projects during which low-fidelity prototypes of responsible AI applications for local journalism were developed, this chapter discusses how organizational learning shaped the development of such an innovation process.
