Abstract

Original transcript and full handout of the successful doctoral defense held on September 22, 2023, at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum, Rome).

These materials distill and visualize the central theological findings of the dissertation, offering a structured synthesis of St. Thomas Aquinas’s liturgical theology. Through a series of integrative diagrams and conceptual schemata, they illustrate how Aquinas systematically correlates the signification of Scripture, sacrament, and liturgy within the broader framework of sacra doctrina.

The project contributes a critical resolution to a hermeneutical division—persisting since the Carolingian era—between spiritual and philological schools of liturgical exegesis, by recovering and applying Aquinas’s methodological principles as articulated in the Summa theologiæ, particularly I, q.1, a.10, III, q.60 a.3, and III, q.83, aa.4–5.
