Abstract

Das theologisch-religionsphilosophische Werk Paul Tillichs stellt einen der größten und gegenwartsrelevantesten Systementwürfe im 20. Jahrhundert dar. Gerade mit den neu- und teilweise erstmals entdeckten und edierten frühen Schriften Tillichs verbindet sich die Frage nach der Konsistenz des Tillich’schen Lebenswerks. Insbesondere die in Deutschland angefertigten Beiträge Tillichs gelten in der heutigen Forschung als dem Spätwerk qualitativ überlegen. Doch ist das Spätwerk Tillichs tatsächlich so aporiebehaftet, wie an mancher Stelle gelesen werden kann? Lässt sich Tillichs spätes und bekanntestes Werk auch anders interpretieren? Der Beitrag versucht die Konsistenz der Tillich’schen Theologie unter Zuhilfenahme einer Gesamtdeutung des Oeuvres Tillichs anzudenken.

Abstract

The theological-philosophical works of Paul Tillich are among the best and most up-to-date system designs of the 20th century. Especially Tillich’s early writings, which in parts are newly or even the first time edited, raise the question if Tillich’s lifework is consistent. In particular, today’s researchers consider Tillich’s German works of higher quality than his later writings. Thus, are the latter works really so aporetic as some claim? Is there another way to explain Tillich’s late and most popular writings? This article tries to contemplate the consistency of Tillich’s theology by interpreting Tillich’s lifework as a whole.
