Abstract
For a long time now there has been a discussion about the central characteristics of pedagogical organisations. While ideal-typical descriptions have been the focus of this discussion, our contribution focuses on the real-life characteristics of pedagogical organisations on an empirical basis. The reconstructed configuration between aspects of provider, facilities and community shows pedagogical organisations as complex units consisting of potentially contradictory elements. This initial situation enables them both to maintain the loose coupling to different social functional systems and to provide a framework for pedagogical action in work alliances.
