Abstract

This review identifies goals for computer-based learning programs in adult education. Criteria for evaluating the programs are defined, which help to appraise the following types of learning programs: Drill-and-practice programs, tutorial systems, simulations, and cognitive tools. In the outlook further aspects are discussed, which have been relevant within the recent research on learning with computers: motivational- emotional factors, social forms of learning, cost-benefit- analyses, and the interaction between subject matter, learning program, and learner characteristics.
